With over
30 years in the Oil & Gas Industry I have extensive exposure to most
facets of exploration, production and exploitation.
Joining
Petty Ray Geophysical in 1973, I worked in seismic acquisition and processing
as a processing geophysicist, in Australia
and the Americas
on both on and offshore data.
In Houston, besides working
as an instructor within the Petty Ray Training Dept I also worked with the
Programming and R&D Dept’s and performed QC field operations for Petty
Ray field crews.
Joining
Esso Australia, in 1981, I
have been involved with resolving acquisition data problems for both the
Carnarvon and Merlinleigh
Basins whilst
performing seismic interpretation on Carnarvon, Canning and North-West Shelf
seismic. During my time as a member of the RACE* team, I developed expertise
in FlowLine mapping of HC paths. These
paths identified the fluid fill and spill potential of different producing
fields and correlated to approximately 80% of the known HC occurrences in the
CE basins. (*The RACE team (Regional Assessment
of Cooper Eromanga) reviewed the volumetric assessment of the Cooper Eromanga
Basins after the purchase of Delhi by Esso Australia.)
After
RACE (1989), I moved into the Production Geology group of Esso Australia
as a User Support Geologist, primarily in 3D Geological Modelling. After five
years of geological support I was appointed the Marlin (MLA) field geologist
and became heavily involved in field asset studies. As part of the asset
teams I built 3D geological models on all Gippsland producing assets for
reservoir exploitation, and Upscaling of relevant geological models for
simulation. With the merger of Exxon & Mobil (EM) I built geological and
upscaled simulation models for Wandoo (WA), NSO-A & Cepu (Indonesia).
I am recognised as a corporate expert in 3D geological modelling and the local
Upscaling expert. Prior to retirement I was both the MLA and Turrum (TRA)
field geologist. (In 2004 the MLA/TRA teams added more volume to MLA reserves
and successfully drilled 6 wells in TRA.)
My 24
years with Esso Australia,
has also allowed me to gain extensive exposure and understanding of neural
nets, lithofacies, geostatistics and Object Based Modelling. (Working with
John McPherson – a Lithofacies expert - we have introduced the use of Neural
Nets as part of the correlative Lithofacies toolbox to EM.)
